Back|gam|mon [bɛk'gɛmən ], das; -[s] [engl. backgammon, aus: back ↑ (back) u. gammon, wohl Nebenf. von mengl. gamen = Spiel]:
mit Spielsteinen u. zwei Würfeln zu spielendes Brettspiel für zwei Personen, bei dem derjenige gewinnt, der (mit taktischem Geschick bestimmten Regeln folgend) als Erster alle seine Spielsteine aus dem Spiel herausnehmen kann.

[bæk'gæmən; englisch back »zurück« und wohl zu mittelenglisch gamen »Spiel«] das, -(s), Würfelbrettspiel, eine angloamerikanische Abwandlung des Puff, heute auch in Deutschland sehr beliebt. Im Unterschied zum Puffspiel werden beim Backgammon die Spielsteine am Anfang so aufgebaut, dass das Spiel gleich in vollem Gange ist.
